The Virginia Naloxone Project was the first expansion state.

We are honored to announce that, thanks to generous grant funding, we are expanding naloxone distribution to hospitals across Virginia—bringing lifesaving overdose reversal medication to more communities in need.

We extend our deepest thanks to the following partners for their vital support:

  • Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority, for their critical funding and longstanding commitment to public health.

  • Virginia Commonwealth University for contracting with The Naloxone Project and for their leadership in opioid overdose prevention

This support enables us to equip hospitals with naloxone, train healthcare providers in its use, and ultimately save lives. Together, we are building a stronger, safer Virginia—one where timely intervention can turn crisis into recovery.

We currently have a diverse leadership council with members from the Virginia Hospital Association, several Virginia hospital systems, pharmacists, and harm reduction representatives. We are focused on educating hospital systems on the distribution process and workflow of naloxone from the emergency departments. In the coming months, we will reach out to the EMS systems to expand distribution to the at-risk population.
