The Naloxone Project
Missouri Chapter
The Missouri Chapter of the Naloxone Project was established in March of 2025 with a goal of supporting Naloxone distribution to all Missourians at risk of witnessing or experiencing an opioid overdose. Our chapter is dedicated to collaborating with hospitals and healthcare systems, with a focus on Emergency Departments, Labor and Delivery units, and other specialties working with patients who are at heightened risk of overdose.

Chapter members are working on several initiatives aimed at supporting these goals, including leading a state-sponsored workgroup, Handing Out Hope, dedicated to the development of a Take-Home Naloxone Programming Toolkit. To date, this workgroup has produced a one-pager for patients and healthcare professionals about the importance of Naloxone Distribution for everyone, as well as a FAQ focused on Missouri-specific medication distribution regulations.

The Missouri Naloxone Project has also helped to establish a partnership with the Department of Transportation to introduce Naloxone vending machines in Missouri welcome centers and rest areas. This program, Rest Easy, has resulted in the opening of two vending machines in the East and West Conway Welcome Centers- the largest in Missouri, welcoming over 1 million people a year. Almost two hundred boxes of Naloxone were taken within the first two months of opening.
